48” x 40” 4-Way Recycled Class 1A Pallet Guidelines

Description – A clean pallet that has been used only a few times. There is little if any repairs to the pallet. The pallet will have no mending plates or companion stringers.


Pallet will be cleaned (not washed)

  • Acceptable: Minimum 60% Bright – Maximum 40% Gray
  • Unacceptable: Tar, grease, bird droppings, sawdust or painted stringers
    Deviation of squareness must not exceed 1”

 


Acceptable Bright 1A GMA
 

Stringers will be solid

  • Acceptable: Solid Stringers
  • Unacceptable: Mending plates on stringers
    Less than 1-1/4” thick
    Companion stringers or blocks (plugs)

No Mending Plates

No companion plugs

No Stringer Less than 1-1/4” Width
 

Deckboards will be minimum 9/16” thickness (top & bottom) deck

  • Acceptable: Varied widths with a maximum of 3.5” gaps. May have a combination of nominal 6” and 4” board widths.
    Bottom configuration – lead boards are nominal 6” width with either three middle nominal 4” or two nominal 6” boards
    Splits will not exceed ½ the width or ½ the length
    Top & Bottom deck lead boards missing 1” x 10” on the edge
    Full length of board must be secured
    Interior boards maximum ½” missing surface full length
  • Unacceptable: Excessive splits or missing lumber

    No Cracked Deckboards Across more than widths
 

Nails

  • Unacceptable: Nails heads raised above the deck surface, protruding nails out the side of the stringers, free-standing nails

Recycled Grade 1 GMA Pallet

48” x 40” 4-Way Recycled Class 1 Pallet Guidelines

Description – A clean pallet that may have mending plates but no companion stringers.

 


Pallet will be clean (not washed)

  • Acceptable: Mixture of Bright and Gray lumber components
  • Unacceptable: Tar, grease, bird droppings or sawdust
    Deviation of Squareness must not exceed 1”

Acceptable Bright Class 1 GMA
 

Stringers will be solid

  • Acceptable: Solid Stringers or Repaired with Mending Plates
  • Unacceptable: Less than 1-1/4” thick
    Companion stringers or blocks (plugs)
    Splits must not exceed 2” x width of stringer


No Mending Plates

No companion plugs

No Stringer Less than 1-1/4” Width
 

Deckboard will be minimum 9/16” thickness (top & bottom) deck

  • Acceptable: Varied deckboard widths with a maximum 4” spacing between interior boards
    Bottom deck – Nominal 6” or 4” leads, with three 4” or two nominal 6” interior boards

  • Unacceptable: Excessive splits and missing lumber

Recycled Grade 2 GMA Pallet


48” x 40” 4-Way Recycled Class 2 Pallet Guidelines

Description – This is a pallet that has had stringer damage that has been repaired by attaching a companion stringer (plug) along side the damaged one. The standard Class 2 pallet generally has repaired stringers. The deckboard configuration is not always consistent since the pallet has been repaired several times.

 


Pallet will be clean (not washed)

  • Acceptable: Bright and Gray Lumber Mixed
  • Unacceptable: Loose debris
    Deviation of Squareness must not exceed 1”


Acceptable Bright 1A GMA
 

Stringers will be solid

  • Acceptable: Solid Stringers or Repaired with Mending Plates and companion stringers (plugs)
  • Unacceptable: Less than 1-1/4” thick
    Splits must not ½ the height or width or ½ the length of the stringer



Acceptable Mending Plates and Companion Stringers (Plugs) No Cracked Stringers or Less than 1-1/4” Width
 

Deckboard thickness will vary (top & bottom) deck within generally accepted industry tolerance

  • Acceptable: Varied deckboard widths on top deck with a maximum 4” spacing
    Bottom deck nominal 4” leads minimum, with three 4” or two nominal 6” interior boards
    Full length of board must be secured
    Lead edge chips must not exceed 2” x 10” Maximum ½” missing surface full length, top and bottom lead-edge boards
  • Unacceptable: Splits must not exceed 3/4 width or more than ½ the length
